Licensing Calculator

We have created the following excel sheet to track our license with Dynatrace.  It is split into three sections: DEM, DDU and Host Units. Our ability to use Dynatrace comes with limitations for these units, so we have created this tool to avoid going over our limit.

IMPORTANT: When using the calculator, please only enter/change data in the highlighted boxes.

DEM

This calculator will provide you with how many DEM units your monitor is using, and the financial cost for Yale.

There are four sections under DEM: HTTP Monitors, Browser Monitors/Clickpaths, RUM with Session Replay, and RUM without Session Replay. Choose to focus on whichever type of monitor you are tracking.  All of the information needed below can be found on the Synthetic Monitor’s overview page.

HTTP & Browser Monitors:

  1. Enter how many requests/actions your monitor is executing
    • NOTE: For Browser/Clickpath, enter the average number of actions per execution, which can be found at the bottom of the Properties tile.
  2. Choose the frequency from the drop down (This is how often it is running, e.g. every 10 minutes)
  3. Enter the number of locations it is running from

RUM

  1. Enter the duration of the interaction.
    • NOTE: The maximum time you can enter is 60 minutes, as that is the length of one session.

Once this information has been entered, the chart below will reflect the calculated values. This provides you with hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual DEM units and financial cost.

DDU

This section will provide you with how many DDU units your devices are consuming, and the financial cost for Yale.

  1. Enter the number of devices you are tracking
  2. Enter the number of metrics per device
  3. Enter the frequency at which the metrics are captured

Host Units

This section will provide you with how many Host Units your hosts are consuming. Host units consumed are based on the amount of RAM a monitored server has.

  1. Choose which table you will be working in - the first is for Infrastructure Only Monitoring and the second is for Full Stack
  2. Enter the Memory and Count for each Server
  3. Reference the Host Unit Sizing Table to fill in the Host Units column
    • For example, if you are in Full Stack Monitoring mode with a Server that has 32GB Memory, you would enter “2” in the Host Units (Per Instance) column
